You can heat it in the microwave with the lid on. 
The steam generated during heating pushes up the lid 
and automatically releases steam from the grooves in the main unit. 
The edges of the lid and main body are flat,
 so you can easily wash it with just a sponge. 
If you stack the main body and lid separately, it will be compact.
